FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A FARM SHARE?

Your share will contain a variety of in-season vegetables, dependent on the growing month. Our goal is to have between 3-5 different spring crops in June, 6-10 different mid-summer crops, and lots of roots, squashes, and potatoes in the fall months. We strive to have at least one portion of greens every week and expect that early in the season there will be plenty of greens in your share. A share will make 2-3 meals for two people on a vegetarian diet, depending on the season or will make enough side dishes for a family of four for about a week.

HOW DO I BUY A FARM SHARE?

We are using a website called Grown By as our platform for ordering shares. You can purchase all our shares and add ons through this website. Visit our farm store on Grown By by clicking here.

WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW HOW TO COOK SOMETHING?

One of the benefits of eating fresh, in-season produce is discovering new foods that you might not otherwise purchase at the grocery store. To help you make the most of your FARM SHARE, we provide recipes in every weekly newsletter. Many of our shareholders have turned a mysterious veggie into a new family favorite!

WHAT IF I AM OUT OF TOWN ON A WEDNESDAY?

We are busy people ourselves and we understand that sometimes life interferes with our routines.  If you know that you are not able to make a pick-up, please let us know ahead of time and we will work with you to find a solution. This could include having a friend or family member pick-up for you, picking up on a different day, or skipping a week.

WHAT IF I FORGET MY SHARE?

If you forget to pick up your share, it is forfeited for that week. But don’t despair! All forgotten shares are taken to the food pantry on Wednesday evenings. Rest easy knowing that your forgotten share has been donated.

HOW DO I PICK UP MY SHARE?

Pick-up at the farm will be on Wednesdays between noon and 6 pm. Please bring your own bags to pack up your produce!

HOW DOES DELIVERY WORK?

Delivery will be on Monday afternoon between 1-4 pm. Delivery is available at your home or workplace in Farmington or Wilton. The delivery fee is $150 for the season. Want to save some money on delivery? Our delivery fee drops to $100 per season if delivering 5 or more shares to the same location. Contact erica@rusticrootsfarm.org if you are interested in setting up a food hub at your home or workplace.

HOW DOES PICK-YOUR-OWN WORK?

At certain times of the season, and for particular crops, a portion of your share may be pick-your-own. We anticipate this for peas, beans, cherry tomatoes, and herbs. Having shareholders who are excited about pick-your-own for a few select crops will keep our labor costs down and help ensure the success of our farm. Pick your own is also a fun way for families to spend an afternoon! Expect to spend between 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the season, picking up your share.

WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE SOMETHING IN MY SHARE?

While we encourage our shareholders to make use off all their weekly share, we understand that there may be times when you have too much of one item or absolutely hate another. In those cases, we have a Take It or Leave It shelf at the farm. You can put anything from your share you don’t want on the Take It or Leave It shelf. It’s almost a guarantee that someone picking up later in the day will be ecstatic to see your left behind eggplant. You are also welcome to take anything you find on our Take It or Leave It shelf. Maybe someone who picked up earlier in the day doesn’t have time to use their cherry tomatoes and left them on the shelf. Score for you! You also might consider taking the items you don’t enjoy as much and gifting them to family and friends to spread the word about Rustic Roots Farm!

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY

We can refund your farm share purchase at any date before distribution begins. We can’t refund shares once the season starts, which is usually mid-June.
